G.W. Wilson Limited Company was definitely founded on March 8, 1893. This was one day before Wilson died.
Here is the story:
At the end of 1892 Wilson was old and ailing and obviously he was going to die soon. His sons were burdened by mounting costs and falling sales. They consulted a lawyer. Without Wilson's knowledge this lawyer suggested to turn the firm into a limited company before Wilson expired. The first papers were drawn up and were signed by Wilson in a shaky hand on February 24, 1893. On the evening of March 8, Wilson retired to bed. At one o'clock in the morning, he was seized with an intense fit. His sons were called to his bedside and managed to obtain his signature, finally authorizing the limited company. At 8.45 the following morning Wilson died…. leaving a brand new firm!
